What??? Now they even have a reality show to let the audience cast the new Maria for the forthcoming production of the classic "The Sound Of Music"??? And this is the brainchild of the famous Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber???
"How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria" is set out on the unenviable task of trying to fill the wimple of Julie Andrews (who could???). I do not think anyone can!!! Dame Julie Andrews is and will always be associated to that role of the singing nun-turned governess- turned wife and the movie. I doubted the real Maria Von Trapp could even convince us otherwise!!! Dame Andrews's popularity in
that movie even surpassed her Academy Award winning role of the flying nanny - "Mary Poppins"!!! Many celebrities have played the role of Maria Von Trapp, but none could fill the shoes of Julie Andrews. Note : Chris Purcell tried casting me in that role too in 2004...judge for yourself!!!
It seems, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and theatre producer David Ian' launch a new production of The Sound of Music. But in a twist, rather than pick their new leading lady themselves, they've decided to let the viewer of the show, decide. In the audition shows the viewers will see how thousands of potentials are whittled down to just ten finalists. Then the wannabe Marias will perform live for Andrew Lloyd Webber and a panel of three expert critics - David Ian, John Barrowman, leading man and musical theatre stalwart, and Zoe Tyler, a tough vocal coach.
Wait till our local TV channels pick up this and make our own local reality show "Siapa Dia Kassim Selamat?" or for the local defence personnels, "Siapa Dia Sarjan Hassan?"!!! PENGSAN!!!
