Fire in Sungai Tiram??? Nah, the "kebakaran" i was referring to, is the famous toast (roti bakar) in Sungai Tiram.
Sungai Tiram is located along Bayan Lepas Highway to the Penang International Airport. I do not remember the name of the coffee shop, but what the heck, it's famous. Just tell anyone, Roti Bakar Sungai Tiram, and most Penangnites will say "yes"!!!
The coffee shop has been operating for years. In the morning, it serves nothing but toasts, nasi lemak, half boiled eggs (I have just learned the term - soft boiled egg, when I had them in Old Town Coffee) and drinks. It is the toasts and eggs that people would wait for available tables for...throngs and throngs of people, in office attire to singlets and shorts, would crowd this coffee shop in the morning.
What is so special about the toasts and eggs they served there, you may asked. Well, I don't know. The toast is just a slice of white bread oven toasted, then spread with butter (or magarine?) and the eggs, well, many could have easily done them at home. It's a real phenomena why the place is so jam-packed...could it be the feng shui??? You either dip the toast (cut in to small 10 pieces) in to the egg, have it plain with butter or sprinkle some fine castor sugar and the egg, well, as usual, a little tow yew (light soya sauce) and a dash of pepper (I prefer my toast with the sugar and the eggs without pepper).
At night, this coffee shop sells seafood bee hoon soup (but very expensive), satay, joo hoo eng chai (cuttle fish and water cress) and salted chicken, but the business in the morning that is really impressive.
Ratings : 6/10 (still dunno why?)
