...my one day jalan~jalan cari makan in ipoh (part 3)

This is the last and final part of the my enjoyable one day trip to Ipoh...to explore not only the caves and crevices, but the wonderful local food that I never knew exist in Ipoh!!!

Having all the "mee koo" excitement, guide Peter took us to the old town to buy the confectionaries and odds and ends...of course we have to stop for the famous soya bean milk (tow chooi). So off we go to town...and I guess, by now, you know what lane we passed by again...

First stop in town was the confectionary and pastry shop...where people go to buy the famous heoh pniah (which is more popularly known as beh teh soh over here in Penang as we have our own version of heoh pniah with brown sugar filling). The shop is a famous establishment in Ipoh. After buying those biscuits, we walked a few doors down for the soya bean milk. I had mine in coconut sugar (gula melaka) at Lay Kei. As far as I can remember, it is the other small stall in a lane that is more famous.

Our ever so kind Peter, even too us to a public park similar to Taiping's famous Lake Garden, but there is no big lake. Taman D.R. Seenivasagam (or more popularly known to the locals as Taman D.R.) is more of a place for the families to have their picnics under the huge canopies of trees.

From there, he drove all the way, beating the traffice and squeezing into a two-way lane with a size of a one way street, to the famous "chew chang kah" (under the tree). It's similar to the one in Mount Erskine only bigger. The are rows of hawker stalls selling Yong Tau Foo (very very famous), poh phniah, etc. As we are still full from the curry mee, we had to watch only with amazement. There was also a lady who makes ham chin peng and yew char koay using a rolling pin out from an empty Pepsi bottle!!!

For one last time, we passed Lorong Po Garden...phew!!! We were like knowing where it is if we ever get lost in the town.
Our last destination and quest was to find the now famous muah chee stall that was featured in the recent "Ho Chiak" TV programme. It is supposedly located very very from where we were. So along the way, we stopped by the Ipoh Airport. As it was a public holiday, I guess there were no flights. The airport was totally empty (just like a scene from a zombie movie). After taking a few pics, we moved on.
We went in circles to find this muah chee stall...we stopped and ask around...it was a wild goose chase...but after a long while, we finally came to this small stall that is right infront of a resident house. It's quite surprising to see the number of people surrounding the stall. Well, it's even more surprising to see the portion of muah chee in a plate!!! I guess, It take about four normal portions to make one box in Penang!!! Other than muah chee, we had the "fa sang woo" (peanut paste). This is good - it's creamy, less sweetness and thick!!!

After all the wonderful places we explored, we finally say goodbye to Ipoh!!

Thank you Peter and Carole for this memorable and fun exploration!!! Looking forward to more :)
