...sweet night...

Thong sway is something very famous among the Chinese population, young and old. It simply means "Sugar Water" in Cantonese. That tells you what thong sway is all about...something sweet and liquid.

In Penang, there are many kinds of thong sway...to name a few, the famous red bean soup (ang tow tng), see koh tng, bubur cha cha (not the dance), green bean soup (lek tau tng), peanut soup (tor tau jin tng), peanut cream (fah sang woo), gandum (wheat paste), bee koh moi, geng geng tng, and many more. All these can be taken hot or cold to your preference.

There is a stall, down in Kimberly Street (Snuah Tow Kay) that sells quite a variety of these sweet dessert soup. It has the ang tow tng, geng geng tng, tor tau jin tng and heng jin tng (almond soup. When I was small, was I ever small???, it always smelt like grinded dead cockroaches!!! I can bare with the smell now, but yet to enjoy the taste).

The stall is just opposite the famous kueh chiap, just a little left to the coffee shop in the corner. If you come from Carnavon Street, it is on your right. You can see a big, well-lit pushcart with many people crowding around to get their share of thong sway. The sign on the stall has some chinese characters (which was translated to me by Judy - Snuah Tow Kay Thong Sway).

I like the geng geng tng from that stall most. I like mine cold as usual with gingko nuts. You can have it hot too. And even add in lotus seeds. The peanut soup and the almond soup is usually taken hot with yew char kueh...Chinese baguettes.

You can seat at the round tables placed at the five foot way and enjoy a bowl or two. A good stall to visit for those who have sweet cravings.
